We’ve found 20 of Brisbane’s best burger joints so that you don’t have to!

Whether you like your burger small, stacked, juicy, crispy, with bacon, in brioche, or with extra fries, it’s safe to say that there are few meals that can satisfy your cravings as much as a good ol’ burger can! With so many options in and around town, we know that it can be an overwhelming task to choose the right place to get your fix so we’ve rounded up the best burger joints in Brisbane so that you don’t have to!

HASHTAG BURGERS AND WAFFLES – Fortitude Valley & West End

Recently crowned Queensland’s best burgers by LITT, the team at Hashtag Burgers and Waffles are more than just your run-of-the-mill burger joint. They offer a unique style of dining with amazing food right in the heart of the Valley.

We recommend that you order yourself their absolutely stacked Double Down burger, two moist beef patties, two cheese slices, lettuce, tomato, onion, smokey bacon, smothered in tomato relish and blue cheese sauce!

For those that are brave enough, however, we suggest that you give their 20-minute burger challenge a whirl. Eat your way through a devilish 1.3kg burger, 500g of fries, and a delicious brownie shake in under 20 minutes and you get your $45 back as well as the sheer pride of knowing that you beat the beast!

Broken Hearts specialise in the smashed patty. Starting out as a couple of mates and a pop-up here and there, Broken Hearts got their start with an OG store in Morningside.

Now well and truly beginning their domination with four stores and counting across Brisbane, don’t let their simple menu fool you. They may only have 2 burgers actually on the menu, but try them and you’ll be a convert.

You’ll find Sue’s smack bang in Carindale Shopping Centre. Get rid of those foodcourt notions though because Sue’s make some truly epic burgers far from their fast-food counterparts.

Their restaurant is reminiscent of a 50’s diner, with pops of neon red and cool signage scattered throughout. Pair one of their burgers with a Reese’s Peanut Butter or Salted Caramilk milkshake for a really good time.

Try a Crunchy Biscoff Shake with your burger

Tucked behind the Murarrie corporate area is where you will find this absolute gem of a burger bar. The team at Benz know how to do burgers so well that they even received the 1st place award for Best Burger of Brisbane 2020 – need we say more?

We recommend wrapping your mitts around their Frisky Business burger, ‘Jackalopes’ SPG rubbed hickory-smoked brisket, bacon, coca-cola sauce, liquid cheese, battered onion rings, and slaw. These burgers won’t last long on your late, you won’t even have time to take a pic!

CHARBOYS – Bulimba

Our Charboys picks; the Classic Cheeseburger and the Southern Fried Chicken burger.

Bulimba’s beloved burger joint, Charboys, are known city-wide for their fluffy milk buns and perfectly crafted patty. Fans of Charboys claim that this joint makes the closest thing to the iconic American In-N-Out cheeseburger, with their wagyu beef patty, special sauce, and melted American cheese. If you really want to spice things up we recommend that you try the Charboys Southern Fried Chicken burger, Southern Fried Chicken breast, signature sauce, hydroponic lettuce, tomatoes, onions & BBQ Hickory sauce. You can find this delicious den along Oxford Street adjacent to the Bulimba Memorial Park, the perfect location to chow down on a beefy burger.

BREWSKI – Petrie Terrace

It isn’t all about the hops at Caxton Street’s favourite watering hole, Brewski. Carnivores and plant-based eaters alike will be in foodie heaven with their 12 succulent burger options. We recommend the Pulled Pork Deluxe Burger with smoked pulled pork, cheddar, slaw, beer-candied bacon, pickles, and bbq sauce. Swap out the pork for their pulled jackfruit option with facon and a maple toasted bun for a plant-based feed. When you try the Brewski menu you’ll be wondering why they didn’t call themselves ‘chewski.’

These guys are slinging their infamous vegan feeds from their New York subway-style hole-in-the-wall on Brunswick Street every day until late!

SUPER COMBO – Bowen Hills

Gaming geeks will recognise the nod to iconic 80’s game, Street Fighter, throughout the Super Combo menu. Combining a love of burgers and iconic arcade games, Super Combo has eight premium burger creations to choose from, along with a range of super tasty side-kicks including spicy chicken poppers, loaded fries with maple-candied bacon and deliciously thick shakes. We recommend the Sonic Boom burger, fried chicken, mushroom sauce, cheddar cheese sauce, candied bacon, pineapple chutney and slaw topped off with some hella creamy aioli. It’s safe to say that Super Combo has hit the high score with this one!

Betty's Burgers Classic Burger
Our Betty’s Burgers pick: The Betty’s Classic.

From it’s humble Hastings Street beginnings in Noosa, Betty’s Burgers has taken the burger game by storm. These guys are the kings of the classic stacked burger and are home to The Concrete Co.’s decadent concrete custard dessert, making for the perfect sweet and savoury combo! Betty’s fan favourite, Betty’s Classic burger, may be very simple but we promise that it’s super tasty, Angus beef patty, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, and of course, Betty’s delicious special sauce. This tropical burger oasis can be found at either Chermside or Newstead.

ZE PICKLE – Fortitude Valley & Camp Hill

Ze Pickle Kanye's Mum Burger
Our Ze Pickle pick; The Kanye’s Mum burger.

This Gold Coast-bred operation has made its name by levelling up their burger boundaries and setting up shop in Fortitude Valley and Camp Hill. The team at Ze Pickle believe that more is more and their absolutely stacked Kanye’s Mum burger reflects that. Think grass-fed beef patty, maple smoked bacon, Kanye’s fried cheese sticks, smoked jalapeños, fries (IPA beer cheese sauce, maple bacon & zp sauce) w/ jack cheese & truffle butter) all wrapped up in their famous brioche bun. This place isn’t for the faint-hearted, but we can promise that it’s worth every bite!

GETTA BURGER – Various Locations

The feasts at Getta Burger are a proper feast and their fries are more than just a side! You can find these guys in various locations from North Lakes to Capalaba and everywhere in between! The absolute standout on their menu is the monstrous Getta Boss; a 12 hour smoked beef brisket, crispy bacon, cheese, pickles, spicy jalapenos and the iconic Getta Burger bbq sauce delicately placed between two rich milk buns. We recommend that you add the onion rings to an extra kick!

This homage to the home of burgers is the ultimate burger bar to get your New York street-food fix with their impressive menu and even more impressive flavours! While these guys offer some of the best burgers from the 5 boroughs, they also offer your favourite New York-style comfort food such as tacos, ribs, and a plethora of sweet treats! This place is capable of winning the hearts of even the most patriotic Yankees.

BEN’S BURGERS – Fortitude Valley

Shaved meat grilled in flatbread is not a burger. Raw fish on rice is not a burger. Fermented grape juice in a box is not a burger. If you can’t tell where I’m going with this, check out Ben’s Burgers. They teach one lesson and the lesson is this: a burger is a beef patty with sauce, cheese and potentially crunchy accoutrements between a fluffy sesame seed bun. Don’t get it confused. Our pick? The Cheezy: a beef pattie, American cheese, pickles, onion and their special sauce.

BROOKLYN DEPOT – Southbank, Fortitude Valley, Stones Corner

Brooklyn Depot Down Town Burger
Our Brooklyn Depot pick; The Down Town burger.

The game is in the name at Brooklyn Depot because these guys are your one-stop-shop for all of America’s best food flavours! Think Philly-style hot dogs, Hershey’s chocolate shakes, succulent pork ribs, and caramel pecan brownies, YUM! And if that wasn’t enough to get your taste buds tingling, sink your teeth into their Down Town burger, double smashed Angus beef patties, double American cheese, smoked hickory bacon, rich bbq sauce, and cheese and gravy fries. Be sure to sink a schooner while you make your way through their sensational menu.

REMY’S – Paddington

There is nothing quite like the feeling of kicking back on a sunny Sunday arvo in Paddo with a refreshing drink in one hand and a delicious burger in the other, and we believe that there is no better place to do it than at Remy’s. Their outdoor deck is the perfect spot to sink your teeth into their Bacon Cheesy burger, grass-fed beef patty, smoked cheddar, onions, pickles, and Remy’s iconic bbq and jalapeno mayo! We recommend grabbing a refreshing cocktail to wash it down for the full Remy’s experience‍.

Remy’s does a free cheeseburger with any burger purchase Sunday arvos

FRITZENBERGER – Petrie Terrace, Southbank, Wilston, Albany Creek

If there is one thing that you need to know about Fritzenberger, it’s that these guys have the sweetest, softest burger buns that Brisbane has to offer. But don’t let these pillows of softness fool you, because these burgers pack a flavourful punch! We recommend their legendary Mushroom Schnitzel Burger, panko-crumbed, Swiss cheese-filled portobello mushroom, hydroponic lettuce, tomato, Spanish onion, and their house-made Fritzensauce. Don’t forget to grab yourself something from their Frites & Fritzensalts menu to enjoy the full fritz-perience.

When it comes to burgers you can’t beat a Jee’s Burgers classic! If you crave a burger that lets its ingredients speak for itself, then you’ll really get a kick out of the classic, cheeseburger, beef and bacon, and cheese and bacon burgers – all available with either a single or double patty. This CBD-based burger joint is the perfect place to satisfy your long workday burger urges!

RED HOOK – Brisbane CBD

Red Hook Uptown Funk Burger
Our Red Hook pick; the Uptown Funk burger.

It’s safe to say that there is nothing quite like the taste of New York City’s street-food, with its juicy flavours and rich textures. Which is why the team at Red Hook have stopped at nothing to bring these succulent flavours down under. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to order yourself the Uptown Funk burger, beef or crumbed chicken patty, gooey cheese, gorgonzola sauce, caramelised onions, bacon, and buffalo ketchup.
