As venues adapt to the constant demands of pandemic life, many restaurants and bars are evolving to meet the new ‘normal’ – and Donna Chang’s The Boom Boom Room is no exception to that. This swanky venue, housed in the 108-year-old underground bank vaults of Brisbane’s heritage-listed Government Bank, is now moving in a new direction. The Ghanem group would like to introduce to you, The Boom Boom Room Izakaya – a concept that blends Japanese-inspired tapas and boozy cocktails with a moody jazz-bar aesthetic.
“We have been developing the Izakaya concept for a while now…’ Directors Nehme and Adonis Ghanem of the Ghanem group explained, ‘… we are incredibly excited to bring this fun & delicious Japanese inspired concept to the people of Brisbane…’

As of Friday the 2nd of October, guests will be able to descend the familiar staircase once again and enter into a new era of private dining. The dimly-lit, moody basement bar will feature its original Boom Boom speakeasy-style bar with some key furniture changes and accented design additions. Guests will be able to secure the iconic private dining rooms hidden within the old bank vaults and, of course, the Trumpet Room with the renowned Timothy Oulton ‘Rex Dining Table’.

The true show-stopper, however, will be the specially curated food menu by Executive Chef, Jake Nicolson and cocktail list by Beverage Director, Aaron Clark. Think miso-glazed toothfish with bonito mayo and shichimi pepper, barramundi katsu bao burgers, and Yarra Valley salmon caviar gunkan. These Japanese inspired flavours don’t just stop there – order yourself a Reiki Master cocktail, a twist on the classic Penicillin, a whisky-based cocktail with smokey ginger and lemon flavour notes.
Boasting a generous capacity of 140pax with current restrictions, the space is perfect for any occasion or celebration, be it after work drinks, date night, girls night, birthdays or simply just because its a day ending ‘Y’.
