Nestled amongst some of Brisbane’s favourite restaurants rests Allora Black, Newmarket Village’s newest dessert cafe. Their minimalist design and the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee lures us in and their new Weekend Bites menu leaves us wanting more. Allora Black is home to a range of gelato flavours such as pistachio, Nutella, peanut snickers and many more. Here you’ll also find shakes, sorbets and their renowned Butterbing cookies, the ultimate gelato sandwich.
Owners Laura Williamson and Adam Naddei combined their passions of specialty coffee and artisan gelato to create the masterpiece that is Allora Black. Their organic gelato is housemade in their offsite Brisbane factory, bringing Adam’s Italian heritage to our cups and cones.
Last weekend we were lucky enough to be invited to try their Weekend Bites and drinks menu. First, we were served our coffees and hot chocolates that were accompanied by fluffy marshmallows and mini biscuits. From the first sip we were hooked, with the beverages tasting better with every sip. Decorated with gorgeous ceramic cups and coasters, this dining experience couldn’t be more inviting.
Served first was their housemade Belgian waffles with gingerbread gelato, blueberry gel creme, anglaise caramel crumb and mircroherbs. This burst of berry flavour simply dances on your tongue like a sweet song with its crisp outer layer with a soft and creamy inside. This dish came with a little jug of custard which was drizzled over the waffles and looked even more scrumptious than it tasted.
Following the waffles was their crumpet with espresso butter gelato and honeycomb dust. This plate of spongy goodness held a rich berry flavour that melted on your tongue with each mouthful. I think it’s safe to say that we’re hooked on Allora Black and we’ll most definitely be back.
